Résumé

The project addresses students of social and economic history and joins the variety of modern research approaches represented by the involved chairs. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of research and teaching in this field, students are very heterogeneous in terms of skills and knowledge (economics, history). Therefore, the adjustment of skills is the main objective and motivation for the development of an e-learning project. ESO aims at helping students to develop the ability to apply and compare approaches of cultural and social history and economic theory in the analysis of historical and social processes. This interdisciplinary program requires deep knowledge of history and economics, and the planned structure will facilitate to achieve this ambitious goal. The modules will make intensive use of the already available extraordinary wealth of data from the „online data base of social and economic history of Switzerland“, a data base with about 10000 time series covering the 19th and 20th centuries collected at the research centre for social and economic history at the University of Zurich.
